TCR Asia Series makes Zhejiang return,Another speed record was born

TCR Asia Series made Zhejiang International Circuit return on its second race weekend of 2022. It was the first time that TCR Asia backed to Shaoxing, Zhejiang since 2019. 4 Intense races in Round 3&4 saw Shell Teamwork Lynk & Co Racing drivers David Zhu, Zhang Zhiqiang, Sunny Wong and MG XPOWER’s Rodolfo Avila all took their 2nd win of the season.

On the first race day of the weekend, pole sitter David Zhu fully controlled Race 5 with and Rodolfo Avila won another reversed-gird race in Race 6.

Zhu quickly established his lead since first corner while his younger brother Juan Carlos Zhu who drove for MG XPOWER this season competing with Z.SPEED N’s brand new Hyundai Elantra N TCR of Xiaowei Yang for second place. Yang made a mistake at the end of the race then MG driver and Sunny Wong made their move. David Zhu easily won the race with the margin of 2.795s, Juan Carlos Zhu and Sunny Wong stayed in P2 and P3.

Rodolfo Avila overcame a challenging race in the afternoon. He briefly lost his lead after the start but quickly made his recovery. Brake issues occurred on closing stages compromised the MG5 XPOWER TCR’s speed, Avila had to defense FANCY’s Lynk & Co driver Chuang Yan who was charging really hard behind. Luckily Avila kept his position and crossed the line with only 0.403s lead.

Series reigning champion Zhiqiang Zhang encountered technical problem during Qualifying sessions, he had to started from P19 in two races but showed incredible speed. However he retired from Race 5 due to contact with 326 Racing Team’s Audi, in Race 6 Zhang made a great comeback and finished 4th.

Shell Teamwork Lynk & Co Racing dominates Round 4

Shell Teamwork Lynk & Co Racing swept victories in the last two races on Sunday. Zhang claimed a Lynk & Co 1-2-3 with his teammates Zhu and Wong in Race 7. And there was a lights-to-flag triumph for Sunny Wong in Race 8.

Zhang and his #1 Lynk & Co 03 TCR clinched pole position on Sunday with a record breaking lap time (1:32.621) and put on amazing performance after the lights went out. He won by more than 10s ahead of Zhu, while Wong already took P3 at early stage of the race. Wong added more successes to Shell Teamwork Lynk & Co Racing in the last race of the day. He kept all the troubles away with consistent paces. Yan finished 2nd and Zhu completed the podium made Lynk & Co 1-2-3 twice a day.

As part of the 69th Macau Grand Prix, next round of TCR Asia will be held at Guia Circuit from November 17 to 20.
